Outsourced SEO: 5 Reasons to Avoid It

By | Friday, August 8, 2014 | 0 comment

As a business owner you receive several unsolicited emails and pre-recorded phone messages on a weekly basis that all claim to be able to shoot your website to the top of Google for just a couple hundred dollars per month. Sure, SEO is one of the most effective forms of online marketing, but putting your company’s website in the hands of a low quality search engine optimization provider can result in a complete disaster.

Several new and established companies hire outsourced SEO companies in an effort to save money, but at what cost? The lure of search engine optimization services for only a couple hundred dollars when a professional SEO agency will quote several thousand dollars is enough to hook several business owners. Here are five reasons you should avoid cheap outsourced search engine optimization services:

Outsourced SEO 5 Reasons to Avoid It

1. Low quality link building will cause Google to hand down a penalty

For a couple hundred dollars a month you are not going to receive quality content marketing and link building. You are going to receive low quality spammy links that are built with software and automated tools. The majority of these horrible SEO offers focus on the number of links being offered, and an inexperienced business owner assumes that more is always better, which isn’t the case at all when it comes to SEO. This type of low quality link building is going to trigger a Google penalty, which will cost thousands of dollars to attempt to recover from. There is also a good chance that the website will be damaged beyond repair.

2. Poor grammar and unreadable site content

Using low quality outsourced search engine optimization also means that any content created is going to be poor quality and almost unreadable. These SEO mills use automated tools to scrape existing content from multiple sources and then it “spins” it all together to create multiple new pieces of unreadable content. Any time content is placed online and links back to your website it is a direct reflection of your brand. Do you want low quality content that does not make logical sense to represent your brand? Of course not!

3. Difficult communication and language barriers

Often times the overseas SEO companies are operating on opposite time schedules, making communication difficult and severely delayed. Also, the language barriers can cause problems. We recently consulted with a company that hired an overseas provider to handle their search engine optimization for less than $500 a month. The company released a press release that stated the product that the client sold caused health issues. Of course they didn’t mean to do it, but the language barrier resulted in a complete disaster that took an incredible amount of time and money to fix. There is absolutely no reason to risk your brand, and you definitely don’t have the time to do damage control if and when a disaster occurs.

4. Zero knowledge of your brand’s service or product

Proper search engine optimization involves more than just blasting thousands of links all over the Internet. Content creation and distribution, outreach, and link building strategies cannot be done the correct way for a couple hundred dollars. No matter what they say, no overseas outsourced search engine optimization company is going to put in time and effort into learning about your service or product, or conducting the market and competition research required to be successful.

5. Lack of a long-term business relationship

Do you think you were the only company that received that generic email or pre-recorded phone message offering to create search engine optimization miracles for pennies on the dollar? They are sent to every single email address and business phone number they can get their hands on.

Building long-term business relationships is not their goal at all. When you cancel service in a couple months because of poor performance or a Google penalty they already have another business owner hook, line, and sinker!

You get what you pay for when it comes to search engine optimization. Picking the cheap option in the beginning will actually end up costing you much more money down the road when you factor in link audits and link clean up efforts.
