Fast SEO Results: The Truth About Quick SEO Rankings

By | Wednesday, June 11, 2014 | 0 comment

We receive numerous requests every single week from business owners looking for fast SEO results. They all want to rank on the top of the search results in a short amount of time, and then we present them with the reality of proper search engine optimization.

There is no such thing as fast SEO results if you want to do it the correct way. There are “blackhat” tactics that can rank you quickly, but your site can fall down and become penalized even faster, leaving you with a huge (and expensive!) mess to clean up. You want to make sure that you do things correctly if you are serious about your business, brand, and website domain.

Low quality spammy SEO services are advertised all over the place, making outrageous claims and guarantees. Number one Google rankings for a few hundred dollars a month. Sadly many business owners fall for these telemarketers and emails. Not only do they waste time and money, but they also end up getting their websites penalized and removed from Google’s search results. The last thing you want to do is get your domain de-indexed from Google.

Fast SEO Results The Truth About Quick SEO Rankings

High Competition Keywords Require Time

If you are trying to rank for high competition keywords it will not only take a lot of money to do it correctly, (for long-term rankings) but it will also take a lot of time. This is why proper keyword research is such an important part of SEO. Many people make the mistake of basing their keyword selection on just the search volume of the terms.

This is the wrong approach. The truth is that some keywords just aren’t worth ranking for. There might be established sites with massive authority taking up the first few positions and the cost it would require to compete at the bottom of the first page wouldn’t be justified by the possible return.

There is also the possibility of the top search volume keywords not being “buyer” keywords. The purpose of search engine optimization is to drive visitors to your website that will convert into leads, sales, and revenue. Simply driving huge volumes of traffic that doesn’t convert doesn’t help your business, and it is a waste of time, money, and resources.

Smart Keyword Selection

If you determine that there are some keywords that will drive high quality buyer traffic but they are high competition then you need to look at what websites are currently ranking on top. If they are websites like Amazon, eBay, and other massive sites then you need to evaluate if the time and money required to attempt to compete is worth it. This is where an experienced SEO company can help you.

Often times it is possible to uncover long tail keywords that are easier to rank for, yet still drive buyer traffic to your website. Would you rather attempt to rank for a keyword that has 1,000 monthly searches that will take a lot of time and money to rank for it, or would you rather target a long tail variation that has 200 monthly searches that you can rank fairly quickly for?

In an effort not to out any client’s keywords let’s take a simple example for illustration purpose only.

longtail keyword ranking example

We created a blog post a while back titled, “Why Your Business Needs to be Found on Mobile Devices” and imagine if this title was a long tail keyword with a decent search volume. Looking at the image below you will see that we rank on the top spot for this search phrase.

This post has solid on-page SEO and the inforaphic received a lot of social shares. This was enough to get it to the top. Now, this is just for illustration purpose only – this isn’t a search phrase with a lot of volume. But, the same approach can be followed for virtually every industry. By targeting several long tail terms it is possible to achieve fairly quick SEO rankings. This is a great way to start driving targeted traffic to your website while the more difficult keywords are being worked on.

Smart SEO requires strategic thinking. Long tail terms can drive traffic that converts into revenue for your business while you work on the more difficult (and higher search volume) keywords. This can be the difference between complete failure and running out of money to keeping the business running while you allocate money to more profitable keywords. Balance is key to online success.
